The community of St. John the Evangelist Church, founded in December 1999, has cared for several generations over the years, providing education to young people, material assistance to the needy, ongoing support to the elderly, and special assistance to people with disabilities. All of this has been made possible through community donations, with the church, as a charitable institution, passing on the aid it has received.

With the purchase on October 28, 2020, of the new property at 9520 Jane Street in Vaughan, new opportunities have opened up for our church to support the community. However, it has become more difficult to sustain our expanding community programs while simultaneously carrying out renovations to the building and the park. Our ability to effectively address community programs has begun to suffer due to accessibility issues.

Fortunately, we discovered the Canadian Government’s Enabling Accessibility Fund program, and our Accessible Parking project received a grant of $104,740 in March 2025. We immediately began the process of selecting the companies responsible for the construction work, and within a year we were able to radically improve the infrastructure that ensures accessibility for senior citizens, people with disabilities, pregnant women, and parents with young children. This makes it much easier for them to integrate into the community and participate in our programs.
