I was born on the first day of June, year 1977, in Bucharest, where I studied at the Theological Seminary and the Faculty of Theology. After gaining the license in Theology in 2000, I was declared admitted to the Academy of Music in Bucharest, Department of Byzantine music.
Preot Antonel Dumitru
Between years 2002 and 2004 I continued studies at the University Ovidius from Constanta, where we got the title of Master. Since 2006 I have become PhD student of the same institution. I married in 1998 with Laura Aida, having a little girl named Anastasia. In autumn 1999 I was ordained deacon by Patriarch Teoctist, on behalf of the Patriarchal Cathedral, and became a priest in 2008, after almost 10 years of service. Continuing my ministry of deacon in the Archdiocese of Tomis, along with two other ministers in 2002 I founded the parish Saint Anthony the Great and Joseph the Confessor. Between 2001-2008 I taught Byzantine music at the Theological Seminary in Constanta, and in the spring of 2004 I was Assistant at University on Canto and Byzantine music.
I trained and directed several men and mixed choirs, and have given numerous concerts. I composed Byzantine music and choral music, as well as St. Anthony the Great Mass in Byzantine notation and the Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom in linear notation, in English. In May of 2009 I went under the oversight of Archbishop Nathaniel of America and Canada, founding together with Reverend Father Stefan Morariu the parish of ‘Holy 40 Martyrs’ in Aurora, ON, where I served until March 2015; Starting that time, I am serving the parish St. John the Evangelist in Toronto.
