Whatever circumstances you may find yourself in—whether in joy or sorrow, in want or prosperity—lift up your humble thoughts and pure heart to God, offering Him praise, thanksgiving, or supplication, and He, Who hears sincere and pure cries, will not overlook you.
Lord, Lord, You who permitted the devil to tempt our ancestors Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, to test their obedience and submission; You who likewise permitted the devil to tempt the righteous Job, Your servant, with terrors and severe sufferings, so that his virtues and his faith in You might be made even more evident; You who permitted Satan to approach Your own Son with temptation, to entice and lure Him with the desires and vanities of this world, so that, defeated and put to shame, this accursed spirit might hear from the mouth of the Savior of the world the words: “Get behind Me, Satan, for it is written: ‘You shall worship the Lord your God and serve Him alone’”; You who have granted all Your righteous and holy ones times of temptation and grave doubts, so that through them, having been tested, they might emerge and remain even more strengthened in faith, hope, love, and obedience to You; You Yourself, almighty and most gracious Lord, help me too in this difficult hour, when the spirit of Satan troubles my mind with doubts and, with cunning temptations and deceptions, agitates my heart and soul; Show me, O Merciful One, Your truth and Your righteous path, so that, having overcome his schemes now, I may rejoice in the words of Your Apostle James, who says: “Blessed is the man who endures temptation, for when he has been tested, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love Him.” Grant me, O Lord, a pure heart and steadfast faith, so that in these moments I may sing together with Your prophet David: “O Lord, how many are my persecutors! Many say to my soul, ‘There is no salvation for him in his God!’ But You, O Lord, are my support, my glory, and the One who lifts up my head! With my voice I cried out to the Lord, and He heard me from His holy mountain; salvation belongs to the Lord, and Your blessing is upon all Your people.” Amen.
