I was born on the first day of June 1977 in Bucharest, where I began my studies at the Theological Seminary (1991-1996) and the Faculty of Theology (1996-2000). After graduating university in 2000, I was admitted to the Byzantine Music section of the Academy of Music in Bucharest, under the direction of Maestro Sebastian Barbu-Bucur.
Between the years 2002 and 2004 I continued my theological studies at “Ovidius” University of Constanta, where I obtained a Master’s degree in Byzantine Music, under the guidance of the same professor, Sebastian Barbu-Bucur. In 2006 I became a doctoral student at the Faculty of Theology in Constanta, studies which were interrupted in 2008 as a result of my emigration to Canada. My doctoral academic activity resumed in 2020, at “1 Decembrie 1918” University in Alba Iulia, within the discipline of Byzantine Music. These studies were completed in 2024, under the coordination of Prof. Fr. Domin Adam.
I have been married to Laura Aida since 1998, having a daughter named Anastasia Gabriela. In the fall of 1999 I was ordained Deacon by Patriarch Teoctist on behalf of the Patriarchal Cathedral in Bucharest, and ordained as priest in 2008, after almost 10 years of deacon ministry. During my service as Deacon in the Archdiocese of Tomis, together with Fr. Iosif Gyulai Mureșan, in 2002 I founded the parish “St. Anthony the Great and Joseph the Confessor” in the city of Constanta. Between 2001-2008 I taught Byzantine Music at the Theological Seminary in Constanta, and in the spring of 2004 I became Assistant Professor of Byzantine Music and Byzantine Chant. Throughout my theological studies, I successively performed in several prestigious choirs in Bucharest and Constanta (the Choir of the “Dinu Lipatti” High School, the “Musica Viva” Choir, the “Psalmodia” Choir, the Choir of the Priests of Constanta), benefiting from the experience and mastery of conductors and teachers such as Lăcrămioara Pauliuc, Traian Buhlea, Sebastian Barbu-Bucur, Boris Cobasnian, Constantin Speteanu and Corneliu Fânățan.
I have instructed and conducted several male and mixed choirs (the Choir of the Theological Seminary and of the Faculty of Theology in Constanta; the “Sanctus” Choir, also in Constanta); the Byzantine Choir of Toronto, with whom I have performed numerous concerts. I have also composed Byzantine and choral music, such as the Mass of St. Anthony the Great in psaltic notation and the Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom in linear notation in English.
In September 2008 I emigrated with my family to Canada, and in May 2009 I entered under the omophor of His Eminence Nathaniel, Archbishop of the Romanian Orthodox Diocese of America and Canada. In August 2009 I established together with my colleague, Fr. Ștefan Morariu, the Parish “Holy Forty Martyrs” in Aurora, ON, and in March 2010 I established (also with Fr. Ștefan) the Parish “Saints Archangels Michael and Gabriel” in Niagara Falls, ON. Since March of 2015, with the blessing of His Eminence the Most Reverend Nathaniel, I have been serving at “St. John the Evangelist” parish in Toronto.
