DIVINE CHANT

Byzantine Choir of Toronto has kept his word, returning the day of Saint George in front of a broad audience, as it promised to do, to support another one of thematic concerts according to the liturgical season of the year. After the first concerts held around Christmas, this time presented chants of Lent Pascal. We speak of a time of repentance, of confession, of sharing and prayer. The interior transformation that brings us closer to God.

The show started with a mini concert the sound of chopped produced four hammers reminded us of monastic sanctity and magic places home. There was a treat for the senses, a vocal concert perfectly synchronized. Male choirs are fascinating to me, and when voices construed Byzantine music, voice joints fabric creates a complex, sometimes unexpected but always enjoy the soul. Harmonization of faultless vocals sound effects create a rich texture and highly refinance. I was surprised to see that when voices are individualized, they are very diverse, each with stamps and distinctive textures. Their joints after the Byzantine pattern, which is woven into the text of the prayer makes spiritual believer to climb stairs bring you closer to the Creator.

The end of the concert bells add their charm over songs vocal performances. The concert ends as it began and the chop sound, though in a more intensive and sustained pace as before, which raises standing room. But notice how the choir puffed chests and pulling air into the lungs and only hear them chanting „God is with us!” With the help of the room, which they murmured in unison.

A word to the end of the concert reminds us that tonight we were presented rare pieces composed by Romanian composers monastic, to which was added the power of prayer. The evening becomes full and spiritually, and culturally, especially since we were delight the senses. In the hall were present pieces of fine art. Emilia Beraru presented a collection of Byzantine icons on wooden panels in egg tempera and gold leaf on canvas and glass icons in acrylic and acrylic painting that captures the Romanian village and Canadian landscape. Mrs. Andreea Cojocaru exhibited metaloplastic iconography technique, the copper foil has a look of relief, and other handmade craft items, inspired by our folklore.

Secretly, I hoped to have a moment recitative as we had in previous concerts, which I particularly appreciated. Father Stefan Morariu made a promise, namely that we will indulge in its recitation in the inspired performances to come, for Byzantine Choir wishes to continue this series of concerts. The next concert will take place probably in the autumn, between Saint Paraskevi and Saint Demetrios. We’re welcome. We enjoy the spiritual and cultural evenings held given to us by the Byzantine Choir of Toronto, we remember the significance of religious holidays. Moreover, we learn not only how to approach the Divinity, and that it is near us: „God is with us.” The faithful leave so refreshed and supported in the faith, even if he had come alone or felt before. During the concert, through Byzantine music, he made a step towards the Godhead.

Corul bizantin din Toronto s-a ţinut de cuvânt, revenind în ziua de Sfântul Gheorghe în faţa unei audienţe largi, aşa cum a promis s-o facă, să susţină încă unul din concertele tematice în funcţie de perioada liturgică a anului. După primele concerte ţinute în preajma Crăciunului, de data aceasta au fost prezentate cântări din Marele Post Pascal. Vorbim de un timp al pocăinţei, al mărturisirii, al împărtăşirii şi al rugăciunii. Al transformării interioare care ne aduce mai aproape de Dumnezeu.

Spectacolul a început cu un mini concert în care sunetul de toacă, produs la patru ciocănele ne-a amintit sfinţenia şi magia locurilor mănăstireşti de acasă. A urmat un răsfăţ al simţurilor, un concert vocal sincronizat la perfecţie. Pentru mine corurile bărbăteşti sunt fascinante, iar când vocile interpretează muzică bizantină, îmbinările vocale crează o ţesătură complexă, uneori neaşteptată, dar care bucură întotdeauna sufletul. Armonizarea impecabilă a vocilor crează efecte sonore de o textură extrem de refinată şi bogată. Am fost surprinsă să observ că şi atunci când vocile se individualizează, ele sunt foarte diverse, fiecare au timbre şi texturi distinctive. Îmbinările lor după tiparul bizantin, în care este împletit şi textul rugăciunii îl face pe credincios să urce trepte duhovniceşti care îl aduc tot mai aproape de Creator.

În finalul concertului clopotele îşi adaugă farmecul peste psaltichie, peste melodiile interpretate vocal. Concertul se încheie aşa cum a şi început, în sunet de toacă, parcă într-un ritm mai intens şi mai susţinut ca la început, ceea ce ridică sala în picioare. Remarc însă cum corul îşi umflă iar piepturile, trăgând aer în plămâni şi numai îi aud intonând ”Cu noi este Dumnezeu!”, cu ajutorul celor din sală, ce murmură şi ei, la unison.

Un cuvânt la sfârşitul concertului ne aduce aminte că în această seară ni s-au prezentat piese rare de muzichie compuse de compozitori monahali români, la care s-a adăugat forţa rugăciunii. Seara devine astfel completă şi din punct de vedere duhovnicesc, dar şi cultural, mai ales că simţurile ne-au fost desfătate. În sală erau prezente şi piese de artă plastică. Doamna Emilia Beraru a prezentat o colecţie de icoane bizantine pe panouri de lemn, în tempera cu ou şi foiţa de aur, icoane pe sticlă si pe pânză, în acrilic, dar şi pictură în acrilic ce imortalizează peisagistica satului românesc şi canadian. Doamna Andreea Cojocaru a expus iconografie în tehnica metaloplastiei pe folie de cupru care are un aspect de basorelief, dar şi alte obiecte artizanale produse manual, inspirate de folclorul nostru.

În mod secret, eu am sperat să fi avut şi un moment recitativ aşa cum am avut parte în concertele trecute, pe care l-am apreciat în mod deosebit. Părintele Ştefan Morariu a făcut o promisiune şi anume că ne va mai răsfăţa cu inspiratele sale recitări în concertele ce vor veni, căci Corul bizantin doreşte să continue această serie de concerte. Următorul concert va avea loc probabil în toamnă, între Sfânta Paraschiva şi Sfântul Dimitrie. Îl aşteptăm cu drag. Ne bucurăm de serile duhovniceşti şi culturale de ţinută care ne sunt oferite de către Corul bizantin din Toronto, ce ne aduc aminte semnificaţia sărbătorilor religioase. Ba mai mult, care ne învaţă nu numai cum să ne apropiem de Divinitate, dar şi că ea ne este aproape: „Cu noi este Dumnezeu”. Credinciosul pleacă astfel reconfortat dar şi sprijinit în credinţă, chiar dacă venise sau se simţise singur înainte. În timpul concertului, prin intermediul muzicii bizantine, el făcuse un pas în direcţia Dumnezeirii.
