Today, February 4, 2025, in the Romanian Orthodox Church, an important event in the life of the Patriarchate, in the life of the Church and in the life of Christians is taking place: the 100th anniversary of the adoption of the decision of the Holy Synod to raise the Romanian Orthodox Church to the rank of Patriarchate. This anniversary, which was attended by all the hierarchs of the Church, including those who do missionary work outside Romania, was enriched by the historic decision to validate the holiness of some Holy Saints, Priests, Confessors, Martyrs, by the act issued by the Romanian Orthodox Synod. An act of gratitude, esteem, validation and canonization, an event long awaited by the people of the faithful, of the sixteen saints listed below:<\/p>\n

– Saint Confessor Sofian of Antim (September 16);<\/p>\n

– Saint Confessor Priest Dumitru St\u0103niloae (October 4);<\/p>\n

– Saint Priest Martyr Constantin S\u00e2rbu (October 23);<\/p>\n

– Saint Confessor Arsenie of Prislop (November 28);<\/p>\n

– Holy Priest Confessor Ilie L\u0103c\u0103tu\u0219u (July 22);<\/p>\n

– Saint Paisie of Sih\u0103stria (December 2);<\/p>\n

– Saint Cleopa of Sih\u0103stria (December 2);<\/p>\n

– Saint Dometie the Merciful of R\u00e2me\u021b (July 6);<\/p>\n

– Saint Seraphim the Patient of S\u00e2mb\u0103ta de Sus (December 20);<\/p>\n

– Saint Liviu Galaction of Cluj (March 8);<\/p>\n

– Saint Gherasim of Tismana (December 26);<\/p>\n

Glory to You, O God, Glory to You!<\/p>\n

In the Orthodox Church, the attainment of holiness occupies an important place in the spiritual icononomy on the way to salvation. Moreover, all Orthodox Christians are called to holiness, but as the Gospel of Christ says: \u201cmany called, few chosen…\u201d. In other words, holiness is, first of all, a struggle with oneself, that inner warfare that must be waged by the one who desires holiness. One of the Conf confessors said that the Christian who conquers himself kills sin forever and becomes master over his passions. So holiness can be a continuous struggle on the path to spiritual perfection.<\/p>\n

Another Confessor emphasized a great deal of compassion on this path of acquiring the Holy Spirit and attaining spiritual perfection. Compassion can be an important path to enlightenment and holiness.<\/p>\n

Another Confessor emphasized the present moment: \u201cevery moment can be a moment and every sigh can be a prayer\u201d. You have lost that moment, you have lost repentance, you have lost repentance, you have lost enlightenment and holiness.<\/p>\n

Another Confessor emphasized love. \u201cGod is love,\u201d the evangelist John tells us. And, indeed, love is the greatest power in the universe; why wouldn’t we use it in this initiatory process of attaining holiness.<\/p>\n

Another Conf confessor claimed that suffering is a path to enlightenment and holiness. All the more so since suffering burns several steps towards spiritual fulfillment and salvation of the soul.<\/p>\n

Thanks be to God for the marvelous glorification of His saints!<\/p>\n

The Romanian spiritual saints and confessors of the 20th century suffered in prisons, torments and deportations, but they did not weaken their right faith, confessing at the cost of their lives and living a life of persecution for the name of Christ, they were living torches and lighted candles instilling love, sowing faith and inspiring patience in their fellow men, they are models to follow even today on the path of holiness and spiritual perfection.<\/p>\n

Their canonization is the confirmation of the crown these saints enjoy in the glory of the Holy Trinity and urges us to follow their lives. Reading their lives will enlighten our questions and enlighten our minds. By praying to them we will find intercession with God. Today, the sixteen new saints of the Orthodox Christian calendar ask us to talk to them, to call them in trouble and to follow them in their spiritual ascent.<\/p>\n

Let us pray for and keep holy in our hearts all the martyrs, confessors, martyrs and heroes of the Romanian nation who have suffered in communist prisons, camps and deportations!<\/p>\n

Let us keep alive the memory of the sixteen saints and let us pray that the Lord Jesus Christ may glorify them together with all His saints, and that He may help us, the Orthodox Orthodox believers, on the path to the salvation of our souls! Amen.<\/i><\/p>\n

Aceast\u0103 aniversare, la care au participat to\u021bi ierarhii Bisericii, inclusiv cei care fac misiune \u00een afara grani\u021belor Rom\u00e2niei, a fost \u00eembog\u0103\u021bit\u0103 de hot\u0103r\u00e2rea istoric\u0103 de a valida sfin\u021benia unor Sfin\u021bi Cuvio\u0219i, Preo\u021bi, M\u0103rturisitori, Mucenici, prin actul eliberat de \u0219edin\u021ba Sinodului Ortodox Rom\u00e2n. \n\u00cen Biserica Ortodox\u0103, dob\u00e2ndirea sfin\u021beniei ocup\u0103 un loc important \u00een iconomia duhovniceasc\u0103 pe calea m\u00e2ntuirii. Mai mult, to\u021bi cre\u0219tinii ortodoc\u0219i sunt chema\u021bi la sfin\u021benie, dar a\u0219a cum precizeaz\u0103 \u0219i Evanghelia lui Hristos: \u201emul\u021bi chema\u021bi, pu\u021bini ale\u0219i…\u201d. Cu alte cuvinte, sfin\u021benia este, \u00een primul r\u00e2nd, o lupt\u0103 cu tine \u00eensu\u021bi, acel r\u0103zboi l\u0103untric pe care trebuie s\u0103-l poarte cel ce voie\u0219te sfin\u021benia. Unul dintre Cuvio\u0219ii M\u0103rturisitori spunea c\u0103 acel cre\u0219tin care reu\u0219e\u0219te s\u0103 se biruiasc\u0103 pe sine, omoar\u0103 pentru totdeauna p\u0103catul \u0219i devine st\u0103p\u00e2n peste patimile sale. Iat\u0103 c\u0103 sfin\u021benia poate fi o lupt\u0103 continu\u0103 pe calea des\u0103v\u00e2r\u0219irii duhovnice\u0219ti.
\nUn alt Cuvios M\u0103rturisitor punea accent pe mult\u0103 compasiune pe aceast\u0103 cale a dob\u00e2ndirii Duhului Sf\u00e2nt \u0219i a ob\u021binerii des\u0103v\u00e2r\u0219irii spirituale. Compasiunea poate fi o cale important\u0103 spre iluminare \u0219i spre sfin\u021benie.
\nUn alt Cuvios M\u0103rturisitor punea accent pe timpul prezent: \u201eorice clip\u0103 poate fi un timp \u0219i orice suspin poate fi o rug\u0103ciune\u201d. Ai pierdut acea clip\u0103, ai pierdut c\u0103in\u021ba, ai pierdut poc\u0103in\u021ba, ai pierdut iluminarea \u0219i sfin\u021benia.  
\nUn alt Cuvios M\u0103rturisitor punea accent pe iubire. \u201eDumnezeu este iubire\u201d, ne spune evanghelistul Ioan. \u0218i, \u00eentr-adev\u0103r, iubirea este cea mai mare putere din univers; de ce nu am folosi-o \u00een acest proces ini\u021biatic de ob\u021binere a sfin\u021beniei.
\nUn alt Cuvios M\u0103rturisitor sus\u021binea c\u0103 suferin\u021ba este o cale spre iluminare \u0219i spre sfin\u021benie. Aceasta cu at\u00e2t mai mult cu c\u00e2t suferin\u021ba arde c\u00e2teva etape spre des\u0103v\u00e2r\u0219irea spiritual\u0103 \u0219i m\u00e2ntuirea sufletului.  
\nSlav\u0103 Domnului pentru minunata prosl\u0103vire a sfin\u021bilor S\u0103i!
\nSfin\u021bii rom\u00e2ni duhovnici \u0219i m\u0103rturisitori din secolul XX au suferit \u00een temni\u021be, \u00een chinuri \u0219i \u00een deport\u0103ri, dar nu au sl\u0103bit dreapta credin\u021b\u0103, m\u0103rturisind cu pre\u021bul vie\u021bii \u0219i tr\u0103ind o via\u021b\u0103 de prigoan\u0103 pentru numele Lui Hristos, au fost f\u0103clii vii \u0219i candele aprinse insufl\u00e2nd dragostea, sem\u0103n\u00e2nd credin\u021ba \u0219i inspir\u00e2nd r\u0103bdarea semenilor lor, sunt modele de urmat \u0219i ast\u0103zi pe calea sfin\u021beniei \u0219i a des\u0103v\u00e2r\u0219irii spirituale.
\nCanonizarea lor este confirmarea cununii de care se bucur\u0103 ace\u0219ti sfin\u021bi \u00een slava Sfintei Treimi \u0219i ne \u00eendeamn\u0103 la urmarea vie\u021bii lor. Citindu-le via\u021ba vom afla l\u0103muriri la \u00eentreb\u0103rile noastre \u0219i ne vom lumina cugetul. Rug\u00e2ndu-ne lor vom afla mijlocire la Dumnezeu. Ast\u0103zi, cei \u0219aisprezece sfin\u021bi noi din calendarul cre\u0219tin ortodox ne roag\u0103 s\u0103 vorbim cu ei, s\u0103-i chem\u0103m \u00een necazuri \u0219i s\u0103 \u00eei urm\u0103m \u00een urcu\u0219ul duhovnicesc.
\nS\u0103 ne rug\u0103m \u0219i s\u0103 \u00eei p\u0103str\u0103m cu sfin\u021benie \u00een inimile noastre pe to\u021bi mucenicii, m\u0103rturisitorii, martirii \u0219i eroii neamului rom\u00e2nesc, ce s-au nevoit \u00een temni\u021bele comuniste, \u00een lag\u0103re \u0219i \u00een deport\u0103ri!
