Dar foarte pu\u021bini \u0219tiu c\u0103 istoria grijii organizate, \u00een sf\u00e2r\u0219it preocuparea pentru s\u0103raci, orfani, str\u0103ini sau bolnavi era p\u00e2n\u0103 nu demult apanajul bisericii.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Astfel, primele m\u0103rturii de care dispunem sunt o serie de bolni\u021be \u0219i spitale ridicate \u00een evul mediu \u00een jurul m\u0103n\u0103stirilor. La Vodi\u021ba sau Smirdeni, Cozia, M\u0103n\u0103stirea Dintr-un Lemn, Sadova sau Hurezi erau organizate astfel de a\u0219ez\u0103minte destinate \u00een special bolnavilor s\u0103raci \u0219i b\u0103tr\u00e2nilor, \u00eentre secolele XIV \u2013 XVII. \u00cen Moldova, \u00eentre secolele XV \u2013 XX, \u00eent\u00e2lnim bolni\u021be \u0219i ospicii la Putna, Neam\u021b, P\u0103tr\u0103u\u021bi, Agapia sau Dragomirna, Galata sau Golia.[3]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a class=\"td-modal-image\" href=\"https:\/\/r3media.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/bolnita-manastirei-cozia.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-105456 td-animation-stack-type1-2\" src=\"https:\/\/r3media.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/bolnita-manastirei-cozia.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 463px) 100vw, 463px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/r3media.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/bolnita-manastirei-cozia.jpg 463w, https:\/\/r3media.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/bolnita-manastirei-cozia-217x300.jpg 217w, https:\/\/r3media.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/bolnita-manastirei-cozia-304x420.jpg 304w, https:\/\/r3media.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/bolnita-manastirei-cozia-150x207.jpg 150w\" alt=\"\" width=\"463\" height=\"640\"><\/a>Nu e cazul s\u0103 intr\u0103m \u00een detalii, de exemplu bolni\u021ba de la Smirdeni exista deja cu hramul S\u00e2n Medru al\u0103turi de un xenodochiu pentru c\u0103l\u0103tori, c\u00e2nd Iachint, primul mitropolit al \u021a\u0103rii Rom\u00e2ne\u0219ti (1359), se mut\u0103 cu re\u0219edin\u021ba la Arge\u0219. \u00cen xenodochiu, era oferit\u0103 cazare \u0219i asisten\u021b\u0103 medical\u0103 \u00een special c\u0103l\u0103torilor. Nicolae V\u0103t\u0103manu citeaz\u0103 un act de danie emis de Vladislav II din 24 iul 1542 c\u0103tre bolni\u021ba Smirdeni, care atest\u0103 prezen\u021ba m\u0103n\u0103stirii \u00eenaintea vechii mitropolii de la Arge\u0219.[5]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Primul spital din \u021aara Rom\u00e2neasc\u0103 este \u00eenfiin\u021bat de Vladislav \u00een 1523 l\u00e2ng\u0103 M\u0103n\u0103stirea Curtea de Arge\u0219. \u00cen Moldova, mitropolitul Anastasie \u00eenfiin\u021beaz\u0103 dou\u0103 spitale, unul la Dragormina, numit \u201ebisericu\u021ba bolni\u021b\u0103\u201d (1602) \u0219i altul la Suceava (1619-20).[7]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00cen sf\u00e2r\u0219it, mai aproape de noi,&nbsp; familia Cantacuzino pune bazele spitalului Col\u021bea la \u00eenceputul secolului al XVIII-lea, Grigorie al II-lea Ghica ridic\u0103 m\u0103n\u0103stirea \u0219i spitalul Pantelimon \u00een 1735, Constantin Mihai Cehan Racovi\u021b\u0103 ctitore\u0219te spitalul Sf\u00e2ntul Spiridon din Ia\u0219i \u00een 1757, iar \u00eentre 1814-15, se pun bazele spitalului Filantropia, toate acestea r\u0103spunz\u00e2nd, comenteaz\u0103 Ligia Livad\u0103-Cadeschi, poruncii biblice a iubirii aproapelui (p.239).[4]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Aceast\u0103 tradi\u021bie a grijii organizate nu s-a n\u0103scut de nic\u0103ieri. Ci are o istorie care coboar\u0103 p\u00e2n\u0103 la P\u0103rin\u021bii bisericii. Astfel, un exemplu de filantropie este colecta organizat\u0103 de Sf\u00e2ntul Ciprian \u00een 235, c\u00e2nd Numibia e atacat\u0103 de barbari, iar foarte mul\u021bi locuitori sunt lua\u021bi ca sclavi. Pahomie cel Mare (276-349) distribuie poporului gr\u00e2ul m\u0103n\u0103stirii \u00een timpul unei foamete.[3]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Probabil cel mai cunoscut exemplu este complexul de cl\u0103diri de \u00eengrijire a s\u0103racilor, str\u0103inilor \u0219i bolnavilor numit Vasiliada, neobi\u0219nuit prin amploare, diversitatea activit\u0103\u021bilor \u0219i personalul implicat, \u00een epoc\u0103.[3]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Sf\u00e2ntul Ioan Gur\u0103 de Aur vorbe\u0219te \u0219i el de modul \u00een care grija organizat\u0103 func\u021biona \u00een Antiohia, \u00een jurul anului 390. Astfel, un num\u0103r de 3000 de persoane erau sprijinite zilnic de biseric\u0103, f\u0103r\u0103 s\u0103 mai punem la socoteal\u0103 ajutorul pe care biserica \u00eel oferea celor \u00eenchi\u0219i, bolnavilor, s\u0103racilor, str\u0103inilor sau infirmilor. E interesant c\u0103 dac\u0103 numai boga\u021bii (adic\u0103 cca 10% din popula\u021bie, dup\u0103 calculul Sf\u00e2ntului Gur\u0103 de Aur) ar \u00eemp\u0103r\u021bi s\u0103racilor (adic\u0103 10% din pop.) p\u00e2ine \u0219i \u00eembr\u0103c\u0103minte, nu ar mai exista niciun s\u0103rac \u00een ora\u0219, spune el.[3]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Teologia acestei morale a grijii este, f\u0103r\u0103 \u00eendoial\u0103, de esen\u021b\u0103 biblic\u0103, plec\u00e2nd de la figura s\u0103racului ca protejat divin, \u00een Vechiul Testament (Ie\u0219irea 22, 21-22; Deut. 15, 7-11; 24, 12-22; 1Regi 2, 7; Ps. 10, 4; 34, 9; 39, 23; 40, 1; 139, 12 etc), pentru a deveni o imagine a lui Hristos, \u00een Noul Testament (Matei 25, 34-40; 2Corinteni 8, 9). \u201eAt\u00e2ta timp c\u00e2t s\u0103racul beneficiaz\u0103 \u00een mod explicit de protec\u021bia divin\u0103 \u2013 comenteaz\u0103 prof. Ligia Livad\u0103-Cadeschi -, iar simpla sa prezen\u021b\u0103 perpetueaz\u0103 imaginea Fiului Omului pe p\u0103m\u00e2nt [\u2026], <em>datoria omului de a i se face dreptate este \u00een mod virtual nelimitat\u0103<\/em>\u201d (p.141).[4]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Peter Brown explica, \u00eentr-o suit\u0103 de conferin\u021be dedicate s\u0103racului \u0219i carit\u0103\u021bii, c\u0103 \u00een lumea greco-roman\u0103, care era \u00eemp\u0103r\u021bit\u0103 \u00eentre boga\u021bi \u0219i s\u0103raci, \u00eentre cei care se \u00eendeletnicesc cu specula\u021bia filosofic\u0103 \u0219i religia bucur\u00e2ndu-se de <em>a charmed world<\/em>, \u0219i ceilal\u021bi, care se \u00eendeletnicesc cu truda zilnic\u0103 (gr.<em>ponos<\/em>, adic\u0103 corvoad\u0103, blestemul muncii etc),cre\u0219tinismul va sparge acest sistem de obliga\u021bii mutuale \u00eenghe\u021bate cu no\u021biunea de \u201ecomoar\u0103 \u00een ceruri\u201d: \u201edac\u0103 voie\u0219ti s\u0103 fii des\u0103v\u00e2r\u0219it, du-te, vinde averea ta, d\u0103-o s\u0103racilor \u0219i vei avea o comoar\u0103 \u00een cer; dup\u0103 aceea, vino \u0219i urmeaz\u0103-Mi\u201d (Mt. 19, 21). Astfel, cu aceast\u0103 posibilitate de a transfera bog\u0103\u021bia de pe p\u0103m\u00e2nt \u00een ceruri \u2013 lucru de ne\u00een\u021beles pentru p\u0103g\u00e2ni ca Porphyr, Celsius, Lucian etc, care n-au v\u0103zut \u00een asta dec\u00e2t o strategie de a-i deposeda pe boga\u021bi de banii lor, pe care \u00eei vedeau arunca\u021bi \u00eentr-un h\u0103u social, cre\u0219tinismul une\u0219te bogatul \u0219i s\u0103racul, p\u0103m\u00e2ntul cu cerul, aurul cu Dumnezeu, aceste dou\u0103 incomensurabile \u00een actul carit\u0103\u021bii (<em>almsgiving<\/em>), transform\u00e2nd s\u0103racul dintr-un marginal, inevitabil destinat trudei zilnice, \u00eentr-un element de leg\u0103tur\u0103 \u00eentre cele dou\u0103 lumi.[6]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cu revolu\u021bia comercial\u0103, spune el, epoca modern\u0103 va separa domeniul tranzac\u021biilor comerciale de domeniul rela\u021biilor religioase cu cerul p\u00e2n\u0103 \u00een punctul \u00een care va deveni imposibil s\u0103 mai imaginezi un mecanism prin care cele dou\u0103 domenii s\u0103 fie aduse \u00eempreun\u0103.[6]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Modul cum aceast\u0103 moral\u0103 a grijii va fi articulat\u0103 de biseric\u0103 \u00een lumea greco-roman\u0103 reprezint\u0103 preocuparea de c\u0103p\u0103t\u00e2i a P\u0103rin\u021bilor \u0219i, din acest motiv, una din nout\u0103\u021bile centrale ale cre\u0219tinismului.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a class=\"td-modal-image\" href=\"https:\/\/r3media.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/the-byzantine-doctor-myrepsos-receiving-the-patients-from-a-greek-manuscript-13th-century.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-105459 size-full td-animation-stack-type1-2 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/r3media.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/the-byzantine-doctor-myrepsos-receiving-the-patients-from-a-greek-manuscript-13th-century.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 338px) 100vw, 338px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/r3media.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/the-byzantine-doctor-myrepsos-receiving-the-patients-from-a-greek-manuscript-13th-century.jpg 338w, https:\/\/r3media.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/the-byzantine-doctor-myrepsos-receiving-the-patients-from-a-greek-manuscript-13th-century-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/r3media.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/the-byzantine-doctor-myrepsos-receiving-the-patients-from-a-greek-manuscript-13th-century-315x420.jpg 315w, https:\/\/r3media.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/the-byzantine-doctor-myrepsos-receiving-the-patients-from-a-greek-manuscript-13th-century-150x200.jpg 150w\" alt=\"Greek School -The Byzantine Doctor Nicholas Myrepsos receiving the patients from a greek manuscript, 13th century\" width=\"338\" height=\"450\"><\/a>Daniel Caner a ar\u0103tat foarte bine c\u0103, odat\u0103 cu intrarea \u00een scen\u0103 a bisericii \u00een secolul IV, prezen\u021ba s\u0103racului devine o problem\u0103 public\u0103, p\u00e2n\u0103 atunci cvasi-inexistent\u0103 \u00een lumea greco-roman\u0103. Astfel, s\u0103racul devine m\u0103rturia vie, at\u00e2t a p\u0103catului adamic \u00een\u021beles ca l\u0103comie sau acumulare (gr. <em>pleonexia<\/em>), c\u00e2t \u0219i a injusti\u021biei sociale, adic\u0103 a modului \u00een care aceast\u0103 bog\u0103\u021bie este dob\u00e2ndit\u0103 (jaf, \u00een\u0219el\u0103ciune etc), \u00eemp\u0103r\u021bind lumea \u00eentre boga\u021bi \u0219i s\u0103raci. Cu a\u0219a numita \u201eteorie a administr\u0103rii\u201d (<em>stewardship theory<\/em>), biserica va provoca lumea bizantin\u0103 timpurie s\u0103 traduc\u0103 \u00een economia uman\u0103 economia (<em>oikonomia<\/em>)divin\u0103, bazat\u0103 pe dragostea lui Dumnezeu pentru oameni. Dac\u0103 crea\u021bia apar\u021bine lui Dumnezeu, omul nu este atunci dec\u00e2t un simplu administrator, a\u0219ezat temporar peste bunurile Lui.[2]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Noul Testament, de altfel, \u00eenso\u021be\u0219te aceast\u0103 atitudine cu o serie de pilde, de exemplu Parabola iconomului nedrept sau pilda Omului care a s\u0103dit o vie (Lc. 16, 1-13; Mt. 21, 33-46), prezent\u00e2nd omul \u00een ipostaza de administrator sau de lucr\u0103tor care \u00ee\u0219i nesocote\u0219te st\u0103p\u00e2nul, prin modul \u00een care gestioneaz\u0103 lucrurile.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Pun\u00e2nd problema \u00een aceast\u0103 cheie, biserica a deschis drumul grijii organizate \u00een lumea greco-roman\u0103 t\u00e2rzie, devenind o problem\u0103 nu doar a unor simpli priva\u021bi sau <em>ONG<\/em>-uri, ci a \u00eentregii societ\u0103\u021bi, \u00eencep\u00e2nd cu \u00eemp\u0103ratul. Prezentarea lor ca o realizare a modernit\u0103\u021bii, la care am devenit p\u0103rta\u0219i abia odat\u0103 cu intrarea \u00een \u0219iajul Occidentului colectiv \u00een secolul XIX \u0219i cu \u00eendep\u0103rtarea treptat\u0103 a bisericii din tablou (cine mai asociaz\u0103 azi spitalul \u0219i asisten\u021ba medical\u0103 cu biserica?), p\u00e2n\u0103 aici supravie\u021buind eventual doar forme primitive \u0219i cu totul ineficiente de asisten\u021b\u0103, e o naivitate \u0219i, evident, un neadev\u0103r.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Un rezumat excelent ni-l ofer\u0103 <em>The Oxford Dictionary of Byzantium<\/em>[1]:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201eFilantropia (<em>\u03c6\u03b9\u03bb\u03b1\u03bd\u03b8\u03c1\u03c9\u03c0\u03af\u03b1<\/em>, \u201edragoste de oameni\u201d) a fost privit\u0103 ca un atribut divin esen\u021bial, pe care fiecare bun cre\u0219tin era obligat s\u0103-l imite slujind lui Hristos \u00een persoana s\u0103racului, a bolnavului, a b\u0103tr\u00e2nului, a celui f\u0103r\u0103 ad\u0103post \u0219i a celui \u00eentemni\u021bat. Filantropia, care \u00eencorporeaz\u0103 calitatea de <em>elemosyne<\/em> (mil\u0103 sau milostenie), a fost astfel una dintre virtu\u021bile majore a\u0219teptate de la sfin\u021bi \u0219i \u00eemp\u0103ra\u021bi, supremii \u201eimitatori ai lui Hristos\u201d. \u00cemp\u0103ra\u021bii au profitat de orice ocazie pentru a caracteriza \u0219i justifica legisla\u021bia lor ca fiind filantropic\u0103.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cea mai izbitoare manifestare a filantropiei din societatea bizantin\u0103 era furnizarea public\u0103 sistematic\u0103 de asisten\u021b\u0103 social\u0103 \u0219i spitalizare printr-o varietate de institu\u021bii specializate: spitalul (<em>xenon<\/em>, sau, mai rar, <em>nosokomeion<\/em>), ospiciul (<em>xenodocheion<\/em>), c\u0103minul de b\u0103tr\u00e2ni (<em>gerokomeion<\/em>), c\u0103minul de s\u0103raci (<em>ptochotropheion<\/em>), orfelinatul (<em>orphanotropheion<\/em>) \u0219i centrul de asisten\u021b\u0103 ecleziastic\u0103 (<em>diakonia<\/em>). Aceste institu\u021bii, ca \u0219i filantropia \u00een sine, au avut precedente precre\u0219tine, dar au fost \u00een esen\u021b\u0103 produsul instaur\u0103rii cre\u0219tinismului \u00een secolele IV-V \u0219i au reprezentat o transformare a modelului de binefacere public\u0103 (<em>euergesia<\/em>) de la etosul antic al \u201ep\u00e2inii \u0219i circurilor\u201d la unul care a subliniat m\u00e2ntuirea spiritual\u0103, at\u00e2t a celui care d\u0103ruie\u0219te, c\u00e2t \u0219i a beneficiarului.
