{"id":10405,"date":"2016-12-02T13:07:22","date_gmt":"2016-12-02T18:07:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sfioanevanghelistul.ca\/wordpress\/?p=10405"},"modified":"2016-12-10T22:53:12","modified_gmt":"2016-12-11T03:53:12","slug":"samoila-marza-fotograful-marii-uniri","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/sfioanevanghelistul.ca\/wordpress\/en\/2016\/12\/02\/samoila-marza-fotograful-marii-uniri\/","title":{"rendered":"Samoila Marza &#8211; the photographer of the Great Union"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/sfioanevanghelistul.ca\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/1.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-10406 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/sfioanevanghelistul.ca\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/1.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"163\" height=\"310\" srcset=\"http:\/\/sfioanevanghelistul.ca\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/1.jpeg 163w, http:\/\/sfioanevanghelistul.ca\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/1-158x300.jpeg 158w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 163px) 100vw, 163px\" \/><\/a><span class=\"s1\"><span id=\"result_box\" class=\"\" lang=\"en\">At 98 years of the Great Union in Romania can be found only three albums with photos documentary made on December 1, 1918 at the Grand National Assembly of Alba Iulia.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"\">The only man who<\/span> <span class=\"\">immortalized the<\/span> event, Samoil\u0103 M\u00e2rza (1886-1967), <span class=\"\">has assembled<\/span> those <span class=\"\">historical<\/span> frames in an album titled Great Assembly of Alba Iulia in chips.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">After the Union<span class=\"\">, he offered<\/span> copies of this album personalities including King Ferdinand, <span class=\"\">the Greek Catholic Bishop<\/span> Iuliu Hossu, Ionel Bratianu, Nicolae Iorga, Maniu and French General <span class=\"\">Henri<\/span> Berthelot.Drept gratitude, King <span class=\"\">accepted<\/span> <span class=\"\">among suppliers<\/span> <span class=\"\">of the Royal House<\/span>, <span class=\"\">and General<\/span> <span class=\"\">Berthelot<\/span> <span class=\"\">sent<\/span> <span class=\"\">a<\/span> <span class=\"\">free<\/span> <span class=\"\">travel pass<\/span> on the French railways<span class=\"\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span id=\"source-is\" class=\"goog-textarea short_text\" dir=\"ltr\" spellcheck=\"false\" lang=\"en\"><a href=\"http:\/\/sfioanevanghelistul.ca\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/2.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-10407 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/sfioanevanghelistul.ca\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/2.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"276\" height=\"183\"><\/a>Today, the copy given by Iuliu Hossu is Greek-Catholic Diocese of <span class=\"\">Cluj<\/span><span class=\"\">, and two<\/span> copies of Nicolae Iorga&#8217;s Maniu, is Romanian Academy Library<span class=\"\">, respectively,<\/span> <span class=\"\">at the National Archives<\/span>. The album is offered Nicolae Iorga Romanian Academy Library <span class=\"\">in Bucharest.<\/span><\/span><span id=\"result_box\" class=\"\" lang=\"en\"><\/span><br \/>\n<span id=\"result_box\" class=\"\" lang=\"en\"><\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"gt-res-c\" class=\"g-unit\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<div id=\"gt-res-p\">\n<div id=\"gt-res-data\">\n<div id=\"gt-res-wrap\">\n<div id=\"gt-res-content\">\n<div dir=\"ltr\">\n<p><span id=\"result_box\" class=\"\" lang=\"en\">About other precious copies of the album nobody knows nothing, says <span class=\"\">grandson<\/span> and biographer Samoil\u0103 M\u00e2rza, Aurel S\u00eentimbrean. He lives in Alba<span class=\"\">, in the village<\/span> S\u00e2ntimbru, of which the photographer and native village <span class=\"\">in 1918<\/span> &#8211; Galtiu<span class=\"\">.<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"http:\/\/sfioanevanghelistul.ca\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-10409 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/sfioanevanghelistul.ca\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"857\" height=\"467\" srcset=\"http:\/\/sfioanevanghelistul.ca\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/3.jpg 978w, http:\/\/sfioanevanghelistul.ca\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/3-300x163.jpg 300w, http:\/\/sfioanevanghelistul.ca\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/3-768x419.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 857px) 100vw, 857px\" \/><\/a><span id=\"result_box\" class=\"\" lang=\"en\">In November this year, S\u00eentimbrean published a new biography of his uncle, entitled &#8220;Samoil\u0103 M\u00e2rza, 1886-1967. Photographer unification of Transylvania with Romania December 1, 1918, Alba Iulia&#8221;.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Aged 84 years, Aurel S\u00eentimbrean confesses that his uncle has inspired him since childhood and subsequently f\u0103cuto his passion for life. He spent years studying official documents to reconstruct the history of Marza and in 2003 published a biography of the legendary <span class=\"\">character.<\/span> <span class=\"\">Also in<\/span> <span class=\"\">memory of<\/span> <span class=\"\">photographer<\/span> Aurel S\u00eentimbrean unveiled <span class=\"\">a bust<\/span> <span class=\"\">in<\/span> <span class=\"\">Galtiu<\/span>, Samoil\u0103 M\u00e2rza&#8217;s home village.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;Make a sketch to us!<span class=\"\">&#8220;<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"p4\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"http:\/\/sfioanevanghelistul.ca\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/4.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-10408 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/sfioanevanghelistul.ca\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/4.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"269\" height=\"188\"><\/a><span id=\"result_box\" class=\"\" lang=\"en\">Aurel S\u00eentimbrean remembers that it was M\u00e2rza first met in 1938, when he was 7. He had come to their house to take a family photo, and he was impressed by the machine bellows that capture images on glass plates.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;We consider ourselves family. A mother&#8217;s brother was married to a sister of Samoil\u0103 M\u00e2rza.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">When I met on the street, he said, &#8216;Grandson, you learn that your uncle, you get an engineer. &#8220;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Uncle who graduated unrelated Polytechnic in 1925. It was a great achievement then, &#8220;says Aurel S\u00eentimbrean. He says that before the war, being a photographer was very respected, as were writers <span class=\"\">or<\/span> <span class=\"\">painters<\/span><span class=\"\">.<\/span><span class=\"\">&#8220;<\/span> <span class=\"\">There were people<\/span> of means, seen in the city. In Galtiu however, did not need any introduction.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;Sunday after they exited the church, people were eating and resting. Then went out to the gate, women were roosters (popcorn &#8211; n.r.), and men drank one cup of wine.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I remember that when I was in first grade, came with a bicycle from Alba Iulia.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">My mother was raised and said: &#8220;Welcome, sir Samoil\u0103. Let&#8217;s do a face! &#8220;. And he said to him: &#8220;Get in the yard and put the carpet fence!&#8221; &#8211; A carpet of one peasant<span class=\"\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"s1\"><i><a href=\"http:\/\/sfioanevanghelistul.ca\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/8.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-10413 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/sfioanevanghelistul.ca\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/8.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"264\" height=\"191\"><\/a><span id=\"result_box\" class=\"\" lang=\"en\">In the meantime, the device gave off the bike. It was very difficult. He put the tripod, pulled a black cloth on his head and said: &#8220;Arrange yourself, be careful and do not move!&#8221;.<\/span><\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">And triggered the device. A week or two brought us the picture. Back then, it was a real film development work.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">We look at the picture as an icon, it was something special. He was more free. He was a generous man and lived modestly, you can only imagine, &#8220;recalls Aurel S\u00eentimbrean.<br \/>\n<span id=\"result_box\" class=\"\" lang=\"en\"><br \/>\n<\/span><strong><span class=\"\">Great Union phorographer by chance<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"http:\/\/sfioanevanghelistul.ca\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/9.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-10414 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/sfioanevanghelistul.ca\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/9.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"280\" height=\"180\"><\/a><span id=\"result_box\" class=\"\" lang=\"en\">Samoil\u0103 M\u00e2rza was born in 1886. He Galtiu six primary classes in high school and then at Alba Iulia.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">After high school, he made two years of apprenticeship photographer Iainek Sibiu and in 1914 was incorporated into the Austro-Hungarian army in the Service surveying and photography.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He was sent to the front in Galicia and came to Riga. 1916 found him in Italy, and after the war was at Trieste. During action to withdraw troops, arrived a period in Vienna. There, on November 14, 1918, he was able to execute the first three cliches photo sanctification tricolor flag of the <span class=\"\">Romanian<\/span> National Military Council &#8211; an event that was attended by Maniu<span class=\"\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span id=\"source-is\" class=\"goog-textarea short_text\" dir=\"ltr\" spellcheck=\"false\" lang=\"en\"><a href=\"http:\/\/sfioanevanghelistul.ca\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/5.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-10410 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/sfioanevanghelistul.ca\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/5.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"246\" srcset=\"http:\/\/sfioanevanghelistul.ca\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/5.jpg 350w, http:\/\/sfioanevanghelistul.ca\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/5-300x211.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/><\/a>He came home four days before 1 December 1918, and participated in the organization of Galtiu delegation. In this context he made three pictures of villagers who were preparing to go to Alba Iulia.<\/span><br \/>\n<span id=\"result_box\" class=\"\" lang=\"en\"><\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"gt-res-c\" class=\"g-unit\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<div id=\"gt-res-p\">\n<div id=\"gt-res-data\">\n<div id=\"gt-res-wrap\">\n<div id=\"gt-res-content\">\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"result_box\" class=\"\" lang=\"en\">&#8220;People were left with the priest and photographer, who was carrying a bicycle bellows camera, tripod and a large bag full of glass photographic clich\u00e9s. Galtiu delegation arrived in Alba Iulia around 11,&#8221; says Aurel S\u00eentimbrean<span class=\"\">.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"p4\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/sfioanevanghelistul.ca\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/6.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-10411 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/sfioanevanghelistul.ca\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/6.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"281\" srcset=\"http:\/\/sfioanevanghelistul.ca\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/6.jpg 400w, http:\/\/sfioanevanghelistul.ca\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/6-300x211.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><span id=\"result_box\" class=\"\" lang=\"en\">Due to weather and technical limitations, Samoila Marza has made only six images in Alba Iulia, three of them show the crowd Plateau Romans and three &#8211; grandstand, I speak Greek Catholic Bishop of Gherla, Iuliu Hossu, Bishop Orthodox Caransebe\u015f, Miron Cristea (future patriarch)<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Romanian National Council <span class=\"\">and President<\/span> <span class=\"\">of Drastic<\/span><span class=\"\">, Dr.<\/span> Aurel Vlad. (Minister of Finance and then after the Union of Religious Affairs, <span class=\"\">Aurel<\/span> Vlad would die in the same year with Maniu, 1953 and still in prison in Sighet.<span class=\"\">)<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"http:\/\/sfioanevanghelistul.ca\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/10.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-10415 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/sfioanevanghelistul.ca\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/10.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"297\" height=\"170\"><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span id=\"source-is\" class=\"goog-textarea short_text\" dir=\"ltr\" spellcheck=\"false\" lang=\"en\">Photographer in Galtiu was not allowed to enter the Union Hall, where there were 1,228 delegates.<\/span><br \/>\n<span id=\"result_box\" class=\"\" lang=\"en\"><\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"gt-res-c\" class=\"g-unit\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<div id=\"gt-res-p\">\n<div id=\"gt-res-data\">\n<div id=\"gt-res-wrap\">\n<div id=\"gt-res-content\">\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"result_box\" class=\"\" lang=\"en\">&#8220;The organizing committee signed a contract with German photographer Arthur Bach, who was introduced to pose. He had no interest. Our luck was that race and came Samoil\u0103 M\u00e2rza&#8221; concludes today successor and his biographer.<br \/>\nIncidentally, in those moments, M\u00e2rza not have known it was the only photographer participant in the Grand National Assembly which sanctioned the unification of Transylvania with Romania<span class=\"\">.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"p4\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/sfioanevanghelistul.ca\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/12.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-10417 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/sfioanevanghelistul.ca\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/12.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/sfioanevanghelistul.ca\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/12.jpeg 225w, http:\/\/sfioanevanghelistul.ca\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/12-150x150.jpeg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><span id=\"result_box\" class=\"\" lang=\"en\">Thereafter, its exterior photos, which capture groups of people carrying placards with the names of towns, were presented at the Paris Peace Conference of 1919 as evidence of the democratic nature of the Great Union<span class=\"\">.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span id=\"result_box\" class=\"\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"\"><strong>Life on bike<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Samoil\u0103 M\u00e2rza has never been married. He had traveled all over Transylvania with his omnipresent camera caught trunk bicycles. During his life, captured a series of historical events, such as visiting the 1919 King Ferdinand in Alba Iulia, Abrud and C\u00e2mpeni, the crowning of King Ferdinand and Queen Maria in October 1922 celebrations commemorating 1924 &#8211; the celebration of 100 years the birth ui Avram Iancu, or celebrations of Alba Iulia 1928, 10 years after the Great Union.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/sfioanevanghelistul.ca\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/14.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-10418 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/sfioanevanghelistul.ca\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/13.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"316\" height=\"197\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-10419 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/sfioanevanghelistul.ca\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/14.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"646\" height=\"404\" srcset=\"http:\/\/sfioanevanghelistul.ca\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/14.jpg 646w, http:\/\/sfioanevanghelistul.ca\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/14-300x188.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 646px) 100vw, 646px\" \/><\/a><strong><span id=\"source-is\" class=\"goog-textarea short_text\" dir=\"ltr\" spellcheck=\"false\" lang=\"en\">A device as two oxen<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<span id=\"source-is\" class=\"goog-textarea short_text\" dir=\"ltr\" spellcheck=\"false\" lang=\"en\"><\/span><\/p>\n<div dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span id=\"source-is\" class=\"goog-textarea short_text\" dir=\"ltr\" spellcheck=\"false\" lang=\"en\">Camera tripod that Samoil\u0103 M\u00e2rza bought as a teenager in exchange for a pair of oxen, and he would use it for 60 years is today <span class=\"\">at the National Museum<\/span> of Alba Iulia, with several photographic plates <span class=\"\">.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<p class=\"p4\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/sfioanevanghelistul.ca\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/15.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-10420 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/sfioanevanghelistul.ca\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/15.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"259\" height=\"194\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span id=\"source-is\" class=\"goog-textarea short_text\" dir=\"ltr\" spellcheck=\"false\" lang=\"en\">They were purchased in 1966, even the owner, by the director of the museum, Gheorghe Anghel. Of that money, Marza has purchased a new device, with whom he wanted to photograph celebrations in 1968, when being fulfilled 50 years at the most important moment of his life.<\/span><br \/>\n<span id=\"result_box\" class=\"\" lang=\"en\"><\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"gt-res-c\" class=\"g-unit\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<div id=\"gt-res-p\">\n<div id=\"gt-res-data\">\n<div id=\"gt-res-wrap\">\n<div id=\"gt-res-content\">\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"result_box\" class=\"\" lang=\"en\">He never got.
